She has done additional NLP training in Neuro-Linguistic Psychotherapy and health-related issues. She has a keen interest in how the body deals with stress and possible methods used to relieve this condition. She uses EMDR, Symbolic Modelling and Grovian Metaphor to augment her therapeutic approach.

Sherine is deeply committed to understanding how Hypnosis, NLP and EMDR can be applied to the areas of health and wellbeing. While she generally works on a one to one basis, she also conducts workshops in Self-Hypnosis for Stress Management and Pain Relief for pregnant mothers.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Perhaps you’ve caught yourself day-dreaming, whilst focused intently on a film, book or conversation, lost track of time? This is what we call being in an 'altered, focused or trance state', or being in a state of hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy is the constructive use of hypnosis (trance) for therapeutic use. It is NOT to be confused with hypnosis for entertainment!

In Hypnotherapy, the therapist uses your natural ability to go into a state of hypnosis. When you reach the appropriate depth of focused state, your unconscious mind is freed to deal with issues you want to resolve.
Hypnotherapists do not directly solve your problems, but instead act as guides or mentors. They facilitate you the means by which access your own inner strengths and talents appropriately, enabling you to obtain any necessary changes.

We all experience altered states, consciously and unconsciously. This means that all hypnosis is, in fact, self-hypnosis.

During a Hypnotherapy session, the therapist helps you to go into a relaxed state. This relaxed state alters brain patterns, so that suggestions are easily received. This will enable you to deal with the issues you want to work with, without an inner voice jeopardising that work. You will also be taught to choose a hypnotic trance that puts you directly in contact with your deepest resources, so that you can be empowered to deal with issues that affect you at any time.

Hypnosis is more effective the more we practise, as it creates a strong conditioning response that allows these changes to happen automatically.

Hypnotherapy can be used to help with most physical, emotional and psychological problems, including:

  • Lack of Confidence
  • Presentation & Exam Nerves
  • Stress Management
  • Increasing Performance
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Weight Management
  • Physical Ailments – IBS, High Blood Pressure etc
  • Insomnia
  • Pain Management
  • Stammering / Stuttering
  • Nail Biting
  • Fears and Phobias (e.g. Flying, Dentists etc).
  • Panic Attacks

At your first visit, you will be given CDs or tapes to practise with. This will help you to consolidate and enhance the process you experienced during the session. The cost for the CD or tape is included in the initial fee. For further recordings there is a small additional cost.

NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming)

NLP is the study of subjective experience. It is a method used to understand “How people think and do the things they do”. The founders of NLP initially focused on the results of studies of why some people achieved excellence, as opposed to those being merely competent.

NLP consists of three parts:

  • Neurological: the neurology of the brain and body
  • Linguistic: the process of transforming brain information into pictures, sounds and feelings
  • Programming: the patterns/pathways we run in our brain.

By understanding how we have organised our process of thinking, we can change our behaviours at a fundamental level.

During your NLP session you will learn to unravel your experiences in a systematic way, focusing on the following:

  • What is your aim?
  • How will you know when you have achieved it?
  • How close are you to achieving it at each stage?
  • Is this change safe for your wellbeing?

Hypnotherapy and NLP can be used to help with improving your communication skills, personal goals and development, career issues, relationship healing, lifestyle changes etc.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing)

Most people who experience a disturbing or traumatic event have an in-built way of mentally processing it. Over time, this diminishes and completely resolves the effect of the event.

However, in some people this does not happen and they continue to recall those disturbing or traumatic events long afterwards.

There is a theory that in such circumstances the traumatic event causes over-excitation in certain areas of the brain, which prevents the natural processing of a resolution. The memory of that trauma seems to be ‘frozen’ in its original anxiety form.

EMDR seems to ‘free up’ the nervous system and allows the brain to process the experience in a natural way. The EMDR technique seems to mimic REM (rapid eye movement) or dream sleep, which is thought to be the natural way in which unconscious material is processed.

It is important to remember that your brain is doing the healing and that you are always in control.

EMDR is used to treat:
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Phobias
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Psychosomatic Conditions
  • Flashbacks

Scenar

Scenar stands for Self-Controlling Energy Neuro Adapting Regulator.

Scenar therapy uses a special device that emits electrical impulses when placed on the skin. These impulses are immediately converted into biochemical signals, which are picked up by the nerve fibres and transmitted as a neural impulse up the spinal cord to the brain. If the brain detects a pattern that is different to what it perceives to be normal - pathology - it will set about initialising a ‘restorative action’. A feedback loop begins to now occur as the brain and the machine begin to communicate. The machine will continue to detect the changes sent from the brain and administer electrical frequencies until the required dosage for healing has taken place. This process is done automatically when using the SCENAR 735vAg device.

The aim of scenar is to bring dysfunction back to normality by restoring and harmonising the body’s innate reserves. The device itself cannot produce any negative effects on the body as the dosage administered by the machine is directed from the brain itself. Scenar will not interfere with normal functioning within the body.

Prof. Karasev, a scientist, acupuncturist and reflexologist, developed Scenar technology. In 1973 he conceived the idea of designing a device that would restore health by activating the body’s latent healing reserves. Being aware of energy meridians he believed that using an electrical pulse at a specific frequency would stimulate the brain to open up energy channels, thus activating the body’s own healing potential - in essence a form of electrical acupuncture without the needles. His first development was the ‘Tens’ machine, which is widely used in the NHS for pain management. The SCENAR 735vAg device is a small hand held battery device. It weighs approximately 200g and is about 14cm in length. As with the tens machine it is placed directly on the skin.

What Can Scenar Treat?

Like acupuncture Scenar can be used to treat most ailments. It has the ability to heal very quickly with changes happening in the first session. Scenar can be used on everyone.

The number of times to attend treatments varies greatly on the condition.

In an acute injury the brain is in a heightened awareness of the problem treatment would occur between 2-3 hour intervals for the first 24 hours. After this treatments are more flexible and can be done less frequently depending on how the condition if progressing.

Some examples of acute injury are:

  • Fractures
  • Sprains
  • Cuts
  • Swelling
  • Headaches
  • Bruising
  • Bites
  • Strokes
  • Anything the requires immediate attention

Reflexology (Feet)

Reflexology works on energy meridians ('life force' or 'chi') running through the body. Chi energy moves through these channels and exits the body through hands and feet. If these energy meridians are 'blocked', that could result in various ailments. Reflexology is the aplication of pressure to recognised points on the feet in order to re-establish the energy meridians.

Reflexology dates back to about 5000 BC in China. The Chinese practitioners realised that there was a link between the feet and the organs within the body. In fact if the foot is observed from a side view it could resemble a seated body form.

In Reflexology the theory is that, in a sense, the feet mirror the body, with the left foot representing the left side of the body, and the right foot the right side.

As all the energy fields exit at the feet, Reflexology can be regarded as a total body treatment. It allows the body to go into a deeply relaxed state, giving the person a sense of wellbeing. Neuroscience is currently researching the activation of the so-called 'healing genes'. It is thought that Reflexology activates the body's own self healing. It is non-invasive and it is a very safe treatment.

Facial Reflexology

Facial Reflexology is an old treatment with its roots in both the South American and Oriental cultures where practitioners dealt with facial forms of acupressure and massage.

Facial Reflexology is an extremely relaxing treatment and, with the activation of specific neurological points, further enhances the treatment. This makes it an ideal treatment for both adults and children, especially children suffering from ADHD and epilepsy

Special indications for Face Reflexology are:

  • Stress and anxiety-related conditions, eg high blood pressure, eczema, psoriasis etc
  • Neurological disorders, eg epilepsy, ADHD etc
  • Infertility and hormonal imbalances eg PMT, menopausal symptoms
  • Sleeplessness & irritability
